Incident 3: Drug Planting (Summer 2006, Bangkok, Thailand to Montreal)

Details:

- Perpetrator: Tagny

- Location: Bangkok, Thailand (Suvarnabhumi Airport)

- Date: Early summer 2006

- Incident: Tagny secretly planted drugs in my luggage.

- Circumstances:

- Tagny insisted on accompanying myself and Jennifer to the airport in a taxi, despite her later flight.

     - Tagny claimed to have forgotten something in the trunk, accessing your luggage.

- Consequences:

     - I unknowingly flew home with the drug baggie.

     - Security intercepted and returned the baggie to your luggage.

- I do not know what the specific contents of the drug baggie were.

- Security/Customer Customs: No reaction or warning.

Evidence:

- Physical evidence: Purple dye indicator-stained drug baggie (attached image)

- Flight information (Concordia Archives)

- Witness: Jennifer (potential witness, currently uncooperative.since June 21 2007)

Risk and Penalties:

- Possession of less than 20 grams of methamphetamine (for instance) in Thailand:

    - Imprisonment: 1-5 years

    - Fine: 20,000-100,000 THB (~ $600-$3,000 USD)

Additional Context:

- Tagny's actions demonstrate malicious intent and put me at risk of severe penalties.

- Tagny left jen and i in and dissappeared in the company of a young man we met visiting Patpong, Bangkok at night - a red light district.  She did not tell us why.

- Professional relationship: You were Tagny's MFA thesis supervisor and subsequent employer (RA).

Impact:

- Kept incident private for 18 years, sharing only with therapist (Dr. Mashal).

- Did not disclose or show the drug baggie to my ex wife Jennifer.

- Tagny cut off all contact after December 2006). 

- She and Josh attended our opening at the FOFA Gallery in Montreal on Concordia Campus.

Jennifer was my spouse and partner of 14 years.  Tagny was a friend we met at the Banff centre for the arts in 2002.  Tagny moved to Montreal to pursue her MFA at Concordia University.  I was Tagny’s MFA thesis supervisor in the capacity of my work as a professor of studio art.  I subsequently hired Tagny as a research assistant (RA) to work with Jennifer and myself on our collaboratively authored Bioteknica art project.  As part of this research  Tagny travelled to Australia as a (RA) to work with Jen and myself .

Tagny became substantially abusive to me during this process.  I resolved to never work with her again and refused another contract.

Next Steps:

1. Consider reporting incident to authorities.

2. Document conversations with Dr. Mashal.
